About KIKI THE BARBER
I was asked what is the “one” secret ingredient that makes me unique in my industry. Well, I’m more like gumbo; one pot, many ingredients.
There is only one me.
For almost a decade you all have come in for appointments, check-ins when you're in town visiting, and sent messages when you were ill to protect us all. You have consistently created community for me. I am so filled with gratitude and encouraged to continue serving you and your families.
My assignment is bigger than hair. I love people and I love serving. My commitment to wellness starts with me showing up with the best of me and no the rest of me. I am an artist and creative. Barbering found me. God did that.
Barbering chose me when my father had a stroke in 1998 and lost capacity to groom himself. The doctors said that he would never walk, talk, or even recognize me again. Well, I've gotten used to watching miracles. I did not know what was untapped as an unrefined skillset would provide care, attention to detail, safety, and wellness. My dad fully recovered from that stroke one miracle at a time, with wound care, physical, speech, and vocational therapy, and the joy of walking alongside him full-time supporting 24 hours over a period of 12 years. As he continued to progress I left home in 2011 and moved to Nashville. When encouraged by a close friend I enrolled in Music City Barber College in 2014 and became a Licensed Master Barber and moved to Oxford, OH in 2016 acquiring Reciprocity of Licensure from the Ohio State Barber Board.
Starting KIKI THE BARBER was learning to work for myself as hard as I had to build someone else's business and watch their dreams come true. I realized my own value when leaving as well as each step I continue to take to build. Even after I left I did not openly advertise my own business, but word of mouth is what still keeps clients that started with me loyal to this day.
This is us. We are THE STYLE COLLECTIVE. Every household from around the world has been represented in my chair and I am honored. As students you trust me with your first haircut away from home, and for parents, your child's first haircut in a barbershop. We get to see what's on the other side of possibilities, photos, and potential.
